The Work-Study program is a need-based financial aid program funded by the federal government and Iowa State University. It is awarded to students based on need demonstrated on the FAFSA. Unlike grants and scholarships, Work-Study awards are earned through part-time employment and paid through the payroll process in the form of bi-weekly pay. The community service Work-Study program at Iowa State provides an opportunity for students to engage in meaningful work experiences to improve the quality of life for community residents, particularly low-income individuals, and solve problems related to the residents’ needs. Iowa State University’s Undergraduate Research Assistantship (URA) Program encourages outstanding juniors and seniors to pursue graduate study by offering them hands-on experience in a formal research environment. America Reads/America Counts is a team of Iowa State Students committed to improving children’s reading and math knowledge.
