“More Than a Job: How Student Employment Shapes Future Success”

Highlights the successes of student employees at ICCAC, the qualities sought when hiring them, and the skills they develop that lead to meaningful success beyond their time at ICCAC.
We will offer a variety of breakout workshops, allowing you to choose the topics most relevant to you.
(1A) Carver 204- “Leading with Empathy”
Anis Das – ISU College of Design
Empathy is a powerful leadership skill, and this interactive workshop helps student employee supervisors strengthen communication and trust through practical, real‑world application.
(1B) Carver 232 – “Integrating and Translating Career Readiness Competencies in On-Campus Employment Supervision”
Callie Craig, Anne Nelson, & Tessa Brow – LAS Career Services
Learn about the NACE career readiness competencies (the skills most in demand by employers of college grads) and examine strategies for strengthening student worker supervision by intentionally aligning job duties and professional development with these competencies. Through guided discussion and practical handouts, participants will explore ways to support student workers’ reflection on and articulation of their own competency development across the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and supervision cycle.

This session shares strategies to boost team engagement, strengthen morale, and sustain momentum throughout the year.
(2B) Carver 232 – “Microsoft Planner for Training and Onboarding”

Explore how to use and integrate Microsoft Planner as a tool when training and onboarding student employees.
(2C) Carver 298 – “Feedback & Performance Reviews”
Megan Spiehs & Mitch Recker- Office of Student Financial Aid
Learn more about how to design structured student employee evaluations to deliver clear, constructive feedback to support growth and performance. Templates and how to leverage CyGROW will be shared!
We will wrap up the morning with a round table style discussion. We will exchange valuable insights and strategies for student employment supervision. The idea of this is for participants to collaborate and learn from each other’s experiences and tips.
