As a supervisor of student employees, you can have a profound impact on their development and overall student employment experience. Taking the time to give them formalized feedback, the opportunity to reflect and apply their skills to their future career.

National Student Employment Week is a chance for us to show appreciation for all the hard work and dedication of our outstanding students. At Iowa State, we celebrate with campus-wide activities, prizes, giveaways, and more! We have also compiled a toolkit for supervisors to use to hold their own celebrations for their own teams.

This event is designed to bring together supervisors from departments all over campus to exchange ideas, share resources and enhance leadership skills.

The Cy™ GROW initiative will expand the use of the Career Readiness Competencies by encouraging areas to incorporate them into student employee job descriptions and implementing a campus-wide assessment tool that will allow student employees and supervisors to discuss competency development and areas for continued growth. In addition, we will be incorporating a set of guided reflection questions for student employees and their supervisors to explore multiple times during the period of employment. The Art of Giving and Receiving Meaningful Feedback

Dr. Brenda Allen from Iowa State University and Outreach hosted a webinar on providing feedback to employees. Both giving and receiving constructive feedback are essential to individual and organizational success. They are critical for healthy relationships and successful programs, yet many share that both are difficult.

This session provides an opportunity to explore and practice what it means to give meaningful feedback and how to accept feedback in healthy ways as well as discuss strategies that make some difficult conversations a little easier.
